FISD Students Raise More Than $20,000 for UMC Children’s Hospital

Image-1During the first two weeks each February, schools across the South Plains ask their students and teachers to collect change “for the kids” as part of the Children’s Miracle Network’s annual Miracle Pennies campaign for University Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital.

Frenship ISD students and families joined other local districts and helped answer the call. This year, FISD donated $21,106.50 and helped UMC set a new Miracle Pennies record contribution total of $44,370.62 in 2016.

“I am so proud of our participating schools,” said Kathy Reasoner, ‎Director of Children’s Miracle Network at UMC Health System. “UMC boasts of having the Miracle Penny Program that brings in the most money in the country, and it is all because of our wonderful students. There were more creative ways to raise money this year than ever before.”

Image-2FISD campuses were very creative in how they involved student and family participation. Some campuses had special “days” such as “hat day” or “pajama day” while others collected donations to “pie a teacher in the face.” Other campuses hosted jousting competitions and a teacher versus student basketball game while one campus put teachers in “jail” while bail money was collected.

FISD’s Crestview Elementary led all individual campuses in donations by raising $5,500. This is the most money ever raised by one campus during the Miracle Pennies Program. For their efforts, the school is receiving a pizza party and gets the opportunity to participate on the Children’s Miracle Network KLLL 96.3 FM Radiothon.

Every penny donated during Miracle Pennies will stay local and go directly to children’s services at UMC.
