Tiger Soccer Opens New Season, New Stadium in Grand Fashion

Mother Nature picked up the final victory of the Frenship Cup soccer tournament with a blanket of snow that cancelled the final day of competition last Saturday, but both Tiger varsity teams started their 2016 season with some momentum for the rest of the season.

On Friday, Valderaz scored a hat trick and Woodard added two goals as FHS qualified for the championship game with an 8-0 win over Coronado. Scott, Mathis, and Garcia each added a goal in the win.

This was the final game of the tourney for the Tigers as inclement weather cancelled the championship game.

The Tigers then lost their second and final game of the tourney to El Paso El Dorado by a score of 5-0.

This year’s tournament marked a historic time in Frenship soccer history as the two programs played at the new Tiger Soccer Stadium for the first time in program history. The new 500-seat stadium is only the second Texas high school soccer pitch in Texas that is FIFA certified. Construction was completed in the summer of 2015.

The Frenship girls next play at home on Tuesday, January 19 when they play host to Abilene Wylie. The boys return home on Friday, January 22 versus Coronado. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
