Two Frenship Students Named National Merit Commended Students

The Frenship Independent School District Board of Trustees expresses congratulations to Frenship High School students Cameron Arellano and Hunter Stallard who were both named Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Arellano and Stallard place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students from across the United States who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. A Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by to both students by Principal Greg Hernandez. Hernandez made the presentation to Arellano and Stallard during the Board Monday night.

dsc_0834TWO FRENSHIP COACHES EARN 100TH CAREER VICTORY

Also during the meeting, the Board recognized Frenship head volleyball coach Randi Trew and Frenship head football coach Brad Davis for each earning their 100th career coaching victory.

Trew’s milestone came Saturday, August 27 during the Frenship Tournament when the Tigers beat Lubbock Cooper.

Trew is in her first season as the leader of Frenship volleyball. Prior to Frenship, she coached at Princeton High School and Levelland High School.

Coach Davis earned his 100th victory on Friday, September 23 when the Tigers beat Odessa Permian 40-28.

dsc_0837Coach Davis is in his eleventh year as the head coach at Frenship. During his time, the Tigers have won eight district championships and have made nine playoff appearances including a trip to the state semifinals and three other trips to the state quarterfinals. FHS went undefeated in district during seven of the eight district championship seasons.
